How to add end task to taskbar to directly force stop apps in Windows 11

In Windows 11 (particularly starting from version 23H2 and later builds, with the feature still available as of 2026), Microsoft added a convenient End task option directly in the taskbar context menu. This lets you force-stop (force close) unresponsive or stuck apps by right-clicking their icon on the taskbar → selecting End task, without needing to open Task Manager every time.

Note: This is not enabled by default. You must turn it on manually. It works on regular apps and most programs, but it won’t terminate critical system processes (like explorer.exe in some cases) for safety reasons.

How to Enable “End task” in the Taskbar (Recommended & Easiest Method)

  1. Press Win + I to open Settings.
  2. Click System in the left sidebar.
  3. Scroll down on the right side and click For developers (sometimes labeled as “Developers” or under an “Advanced” section in certain builds).
  4. Scroll down a bit until you see the End task toggle/switch.
  5. Turn the End task option On.

That’s it — no restart is usually needed.
